Some Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a Clinical Pharmacist and a Retail Pharmacist?

As a Clinical Pharmacist, you work with healthcare professionals and help them with patients. A Retail Pharmacist, however, primarily helps customers in-store with information they need to use their medications properly.

Is there any difference in medication use with becoming a Clinical Pharmacist?

A Clinical Pharmacist works primarily in the hospital. As a result, a Clinical Pharmacist will provide more uncommon medications such as those that require an intravenous drip (IV). IV medications take some extra time to prepare and adequately calculate dosage.

What is the difference between being a Clinical Pharmacist and a Physician?

While a Physician diagnoses a patient’s condition and prescribes an appropriate treatment plan, a Clinical Pharmacist is focused on medication, how it works and what is best to prescribe based on individual situations. They also confirm that a prescribed medication is the correct choice for a patient’s situation. They may consult with a patient’s Physician if they think a different medication may be more effective.
